Twenty Years at Flowtech

Posted: 18/06/2021

Today our Finance Manager Kate Mair, celebrates her twenty year anniversary at Flowtech - an incredible milestone!

Kate began working for Flowtech in the Credit Control department, on the 18th June 2001- one week after she turned eighteen. She began working part time for her then manager Shelagh Duffy; Kate only completed two weeks of training to begin with, then swanned off to Magaluf for a two week holiday! Shortly after, a part time tole became available in our Purchase Ledger Department and Kate started spending her mornings in Credit Control, chasing the money from customers, and then the afternoons in Purchase Ledger paying it out to suppliers!

Kate then decided that the Purchase Ledger role suited her best and so she took up a full time position there, eventually building up to the position of Purchase Ledger Team Leader, reporting to our previous Finance Director, Keith Crosby.

Kate commented: “I was keen to gain professional qualifications in Accountancy, so began my AAT studies at night school at Ormskirk College. A project that I completed for my final year was to evaluate the possibility of moving our manual invoice printing and mailing process, to an online company ‘Synertec’. The cost analysis and findings were presented to the Board of Directors, and the move was implemented by Flowtech. I qualified with AAT after a few years and earned the letters MAAT after my name.”

Wishing to further develop her career, Kate continued her studies, this time with the Accounting body CIMA, at Blackburn College and she was offered a role within the Management Accounts Department, giving her the opportunity to put in to practice what she had learned.

In 2007, Kate completed one of her greatest personal achievements: 10 days trekking along the Great Wall of China in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, alongside colleague and friend, Jane D’Silva. Flowtech were hugely supportive and allowed us them write to our customers and suppliers for support towards this great cause, raising an impressive £7000!
